Designing Web Site Navigation

Navigation in a website which appeared at menu and links is directory for visitor about pages in web site. Visitor will be easier finding pages in your web site if menus and links will appear structurally. Sure, your visitors will be mad if they can not get website's page their looking for because complicated navigation.

There are some Navigation concept that will make you easy to build navigation system at your website. Here is they are:

Good Planning

Something you have to do before start make a web is making concept from that website. That concept will accommodate basic navigation in “tree view” form (branch), start from general content until detail content. This is main line from site will made.

Where to put Navigation

Like mentioned above, that navigation will take visitor from general things to something detail. Main page (index) of course will accommodate main menus which is general. Branching from the core menus can put in branch pages of index. Other alternative, you can use javascript to show menu and sub menus at once.
 

Consistency Navigation

Try not to change menu place at every web pages so visitor will easier finding that menus. Example, if main menu is above of the page,  you can make a sub menu appears in the left or right side of the page.
 

Spotty!

Make spotty menu so visitor will easy to know it. This of course must complete with esthetical so that menus can side by side with web design concept made.
 

Brief & Descriptive

The words in menus must give clear guide and brief about website page under that menu. Use common, short, and easy understand terms.
 

Give directory to visitor

It will be better if web site page accommodate web page short structure which appeared. Example: about us >> address >>
 

Give link to main page

Don’t forget to give link to main page or link to page in “parent topic”. This will easing visitor if your site building in complex menu and sub menu structure.
 

Site map

Make site map which link is in every web pages. This would easier and faster searching process for web site pages by visitor.If visitor feel comfort in visiting your web site, it will better if web site content can receive by visitor.
